MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: | Overview: To direct and control the technical functions to enable the company to achieve its objectives, working closely with the Chief Technical Officer (CTO). This successful business predominantly services the plastics industry (injection moulding, compression moulding, extrusion moulding, blow moulding ) KEY EXPECTATIONS: You must have proven experience within either a Technical Manager, Engineering Manager or Design Manager role and held a Director post or equivalent for at least 12 months, with good experience in presenting to the board level and strategy planning. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Direct and control all Design, Engineering, Service and other Technical staff to ensure that they are appropriately motivated and trained and carry out their responsibilities to the required standards. 2. Contribute as a board director to the development and implementation of the company’s corporate strategy, taking input from and representing the views of the CTO at board level. Work alongside CTO to maintain and develop relationships with suppliers to drive product development. Direct and control all Design, Engineering, Service and other Technical staff to ensure that they are appropriately motivated and trained and carry out their responsibilities to the required standards. o Manage and lead staff, striving to achieve maximum motivation and job satisfaction o Overview working practices and internal procedures to ensure they comply with quality standards o Ensure sufficient suitable staff are recruited to meet operational requirements o Define and allocate responsibilities and authorities to direct reports o Ensure performance of staff is regularly monitored and reviewed o Ensure all staff are appropriately trained to a level agreed with the CTO o Ensure that existing team members are developed to ensure a pool of talented individuals equipped with business-critical skills Contribute as a board director to the development and implementation of the company’s corporate strategy, taking input from and representing the views of the CTO at board level. o Attend board meetings and submit reports as required o Liaising with CTO keep all products and processes under review and suggest the introduction of new technology as appropriate to ensure continuous improvement and to identify potential new products and processed for customers. o Develop and control budgets and carry out all necessary financial analysis to ensure that costs are controlled, and services maintained to the required standards Undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this post, including supporting other business areas |
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: | PERSON SPECIFICATION A recognised formal engineering qualification or demonstrable significant experience in relevant fields. Significant managerial experience of engineering and technical teams Experience of technical innovation Understanding of production processes would be an advantage Budget and time management skills Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills Excellent decision-making skills |
