Main responsibilities

Developing conceptual design of new products, and continuously seeking innovations to the existing components and product portfolio.

  1. Investigate and undertake analysis on how to improve new and existing products
  2. Summarise scientific and engineering principles in an easy to understand manner
  3. Write technical reports to summarise findings
  4. Be involved with concept, specification, tender and development of new components
  5. Design the aesthetics, materials and functionality of components
  6. Use NX CAD and SolidWorks to design and visualise projects
  7. Undertake model making, prototyping and product testing
  8. Identify new systems and processes to drive quality, efficiency and save costs
  9. Undertake complex calculations
  10. Communicate and produce the necessary documentation to enable a project to progress
  11. Communicate effectively with the clients, colleagues and Suppliers involved in a project
  12. Train and induct colleagues when required
  13. Managing and storing designs and drawings within team-centre to the current procedure
  14. Visit existing and potential customers along with sales team to advise and make design recommendations
  15. Liaise with other Group design departments
  16. Attend the VF and New Product working group meetings.

The person specification / core competencies required for this role are:

  1. Communication – ability to communicate at all levels, both internally and externally, verbally and in writing
  2. Organised, efficient and with a high level of attention to detail
  3. Natural desire to continuously improve processes and to continue training to develop expertise
  4. Self-motivated, can do, positive attitude
  5. Customer Focus – ability to focus on both internal and external customers
  6. Passionate and trustworthy with a focus on details.

Qualifications/experience required

    1. Significant proven experience in a similar role (plastics industry preferred)
    2. Product design and proficient in the use of CAD design software (NVA Level 2)
    3. Mechanical Engineering, degree qualified
    4. Computer literacy and competent with Microsoft Project and MS Office
    5. Proficient in the interpretation of technical specifications.
