Job overview
Alliance Tooling is looking for an accomplished Sales & Business Development professional to strengthen our presence across the UK plastics industry and develop new opportunities with both existing and prospective customers. This is a sales role first and foremost. We are not specifically looking for a toolmaker who has moved into sales, nor do we expect the successful candidate to be an injection mould tooling expert. Detailed technical knowledge can be provided by our experienced engineering and project teams. What we are looking for is a professional salesperson who understands how to identify a market, create meaningful customer contact, build relationships, develop opportunities and maintain a disciplined sales pipeline.
Why join Alliance Tooling?:
- Opportunity to represent a well-established British tooling company with a genuinely differentiated proposition.
- Ability to offer customers the flexibility of UK manufacture or cost-effective manufacture through our own Chinese facility, combined with UK project management, technical expertise, after-sales support and shot-life guarantees.
- Opportunity to help shape how Alliance Tooling approaches the marketplace as we continue to develop the business and strengthen our relationships across the UK plastics sector.
Company overview
Alliance Tooling is an established UK injection mould toolmaker providing tooling solutions to customers across the plastics and manufacturing industries.
Our proposition is unusual within the UK tooling market because we can offer customers a genuine choice of manufacturing routes. We manufacture injection mould tools at our comprehensive UK facility in Leicestershire, while also offering competitively priced overseas manufacture through our own tooling facility in China.
Unlike businesses that simply source or resell Far Eastern tooling, Alliance manages the complete process. Our overseas tooling projects are supported by our UK engineering and project teams and backed by our UK shot-life guarantee and UK technical support. This combination allows our customers to select the manufacturing route best suited to their project while retaining a single, accountable UK partner responsible for the tooling solution.
The appointment of a new Sales & Business Development Manager is part of our continued growth and our commitment to building closer, longer-term relationships with customers throughout the UK plastics industry.
Role responsibilities
You will take responsibility for proactively developing our marketplace, creating new relationships and increasing regular, professional contact with both prospective and existing customers. Your activities will include:
- Researching the UK plastics and injection moulding marketplace to identify target companies, sectors, projects and decision-makers.
- Developing and maintaining a structured prospect and customer database.
- Making consistent, professional contact with prospective customers by telephone, email, LinkedIn and other appropriate channels.
- Planning and executing targeted email and LinkedIn business-development campaigns.
- Building relationships through regular and relevant communication rather than relying on occasional quotation opportunities.
- Identifying tooling projects and commercial opportunities at an early stage.
- Meeting prospective and existing customers to understand their businesses, investment plans and future tooling requirements.
- Presenting Alliance Tooling and our UK and overseas manufacturing capabilities professionally and commercially.
- Working closely with our technical team once an opportunity requires detailed tooling, design or engineering input.
- Maintaining disciplined follow-up of enquiries, quotations and future opportunities.
- Managing your time and activity effectively to maximise meaningful customer contact.
- Maintaining accurate records of contacts, opportunities and follow-up activity.
- Monitoring market developments, competitor activity and emerging opportunities within the plastics sector.
- Attending relevant industry exhibitions, networking events and customer meetings where appropriate.
Benefits/package
Competitive salary and performance-related package, dependent on experience.
Qualifications/experience required
The successful candidate is likely to be someone who can demonstrate:
- A strong track record in professional B2B sales or business development.
- Experience within the plastics industry, injection moulding, manufacturing or another technical B2B environment would be advantageous (experience within plastics, injection moulding, manufacturing or a related industrial market would be a significant advantage, but your commercial ability, professionalism and approach to business development are more important than detailed knowledge of toolmaking).
- The ability to research and systematically develop a marketplace.
- Confidence communicating with customers at different levels within an organisation.
- Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written communication and the ability to construct concise, professional sales emails.
- Practical experience using LinkedIn as a business-development and prospecting tool.
- An understanding of structured email campaigns and customer follow-up.
- Strong personal organisation and the discipline to manage a sales pipeline consistently.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to recognise genuine opportunities.
- A professional, credible and consultative approach to selling.
- The confidence to work independently while drawing on the support of a highly experienced technical team.
What you don't need to be:
- You do not need to be a toolmaker.
- You do not need detailed knowledge of mould design, tool steels, machining processes or the technical construction of injection mould tools.
